2002 Inter-Club Campout

August 2-4 is the annual Inter-club campout, this year sponsored by the MHBA. The competition will be directed by last year's winner, Dick Nilles, of The Prairie Homebrewing Companions. The MHBA will supply the Saturday night meal for all attendees. If you would like to bring some food to share, (desserts!) they will be welcome.

This is the chance to get together for a relaxing good time with many homebrewers from around the state(s) to share stories, brewing techniques, recipes, and just catch up on the latest happenings. The evening campfires surrounded by lawnchairs, kegs, and coolers loaded with our favorite beverages, are not to be missed.

The campground is located near Cokato on highway 12, about 55 miles due west of the Twin Cities. The private group campsite we have reserved can accommodate anything from tents to motorhomes. It is secluded, with plenty of shade and grass, an excellent firepit, a permanent pit toilet, and a water source. It is a short distance from the lake beach, showers, and the office store.

Directions from the Twin Cities: Take Highway 12 West about 55 miles. Turn left before Cokato at the big Collinwood County sign. Go 3 miles to the southwest, following the excellent signs. At the campground entrance take the gravel road to the left, not the road to the main campground on the right.

The styles for the competition are:

Each club is allowed one entry in each style and must have at least one member on site for judging. The MHBA will be picking our entries from whatever we have on site Saturday morning. Please provide 3 12 oz. brown bottles of each beer entry. If you can't make it, send your beer with someone who can.

This is the chance to get together for a relaxing good time with many homebrewers from around the state to share stories, brewing techniques, recipes, and just catch up with the latest happenings. The evening campfires surrounded by lawnchairs, kegs, and coolers loaded with our favorite beverages, is also a great tradition at this event. Mike Valentiner, one of our long time members, won the opportunity to pick the styles for this summer. Even if you can't attend, another member can deliver your entries.

*** Update ***

Hey All,

The Timberworts have arranged for a tour of Minnesota Malting on Saturday August 4th at 11:00 a.m.!!!

Minnesota Malting is located in Cannon Falls about 1/2 hour away from our campsite in Wazionja. We will be leaving from the campsite around 10:30 a.m. and I am assuming we will be back by 1:00 p.m. If you want to meet us there let me know and I will get you the directions. I can be reached at pam.king@courts... or kingwarp@rconnect...

Some of our members have toured this plant before and say that it is a really interesting tour. I hope everyone will be able to make it.

If you plan on going on the tour please bring a bottle of homebrew with you to give to the tour guide as a thank you.

ALSO - if you are planning on coming down on Friday night we will have a deep fryer at the campsite so you may bring stuff to cook if you want.

See you there

Rules: No entry fees. At least 3 (more is also fine!) 12 oz brown bottles please. Each club will pick their best entry in each category. Any and all entries need to be on-site Friday evening so that they can be evaluated Saturday morning by MHBA club members in attendance.

Food: The hosting club, Minnesota Timberworts, will provide the basics for the Saturday evening meal. Anyone who attends is urged to bring their favorite camp cuisine. It would also be appreciated if you bring something good to share. Throughout the weekend, you'll find a generous assortment of tasty tidbits. If you like the outdoors and good eating, you must attend.

Directions: See our Locations page for a map.

The campground is located on Wazionja Road - it is the first road on the left going north out of Oronoco on Hwy. 52, about a mile north of the Conoco station. The campground is on the left about a 1/2 mile down Wazionja road. There are signs (MnDot) for the campground on 52.

If you are planning to bring a large camper or RV, you will need to contact the campground and request a location near the 'interclub campout' site(if that is your desire).

Our hosts, the Timberworts, will be distributing 'brewing kits' to several clubs that are planning to attend the campout. The idea is to have a tasting competition at the campground. Any questions, please contact Leo Vitt.

I hope to see you all out there.
