The 2009 Minnesota State Fair Home Brewed Beer, Mead and Cider Competition
is sanctioned by the AHA/BJCP Sanctioned Competition Program, and co-sponsored by the
Minnesota Home Brewer's Association and the Saint Paul Homebrewers Club

When:
- July 22 - Aug. 14, 2009 - Online Registration
NOTE: Must be pre-registered by Aug. 14 to enter.
Registrations after Aug. 14 will NOT be accepted!
Checks will be returned, but beers submitted past registrations will not be returned.
- Aug 6 - Aug 14, 2009 - Entries accepted at drop-off sites
- August 21, 2009, 5pm-10:00pm - First Round Judging
at the Creative Activities Annex at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds
- August 22, 2009, 9am-6pm - First Round Judging
at the Creative Activities Annex at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds
NOTE: Preliminary judging not open to the general public.
- August 29, 2009, 1pm - Best-Of-Show Judging and Awards Ceremony
at the Education Building's outdoor stage, adjacent to the
Creative Activities building.
Eligibility:
- Any Minnesota Brewer of legal age may enter.
- Beers must be entered under the name of all brewers who helped.
- Beers brewed in commercial facilities are ineligible.
Entry Fee:
- $5 for each entry, payable to the "MHBA"
Entry Requirements:
- Pre-registration is required. Entries must be pre-registered
via the MHBA web site by Friday, August 14, 2009
- Only one entry per BJCP subcategory. Entries will only be accepted from non-professional brewers from Minnesota.
- PLEASE NOTE: CATEGORIES MEMBERS HAVE CHANGED! Categories now contain beers from the updated 2004 BJCP Guidelines. Categories are:

- Bottles must be free of labels or other identifying marks including formed-in-glass brands or logos.
- TWO (2) 10-14 oz. bottles are required for each entry. No swing tops allowed. Printed crown caps must be blacked-out with a permanent marker to assure anonymity of all entries.
- One (1) entry form must be filled out, printed and submitted with each entry. ENTRIES SUBMITTED WITHOUT PRINTED ENTRY FORM WILL BE DISQUAQLIFIED. Entries MUST be completed online by clicking the button below.
- A Bottle ID Form must be attached to each bottle with a rubber band. No tape, please! Bottle ID forms will be generated for you by the Online Registration below.
- All entries become the property of the Minnesota State Fair Homebrew Competition. No entries will be returned for any reason.

Judging:
- All 28 BJCP categories of Beer, Mead, And Cider will be accepted.
- The BJCP style categories are available at http://www.bjcp.org.

Minnesota State Fair Judging
- One entry per BJCP subcategory per brewer. The competition committee reserves the right to combine categories based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in.
- In the first round, a flight of judges will score 5-10 entries selecting the best three. If a second round is necessary, the second round will consist of the top three entries selected from each table judging that category in the first round.
All entries will be evaluated by more than one judge. Entries will be chilled and stored properly and appropriately for the style. Entries will be disqualified for rules infractions. These entries will be judged if possible, but not eligible for awards and prizes. All decisions of the judges and competition committee are final.
Drop Off and Shipping:
Each entry must include: Entry form, 2 bottles with neck labels
Pre-registered entries must be prepared and packaged as above
by Friday, August 14 and delivered to one of the
following two designated drop off locations. DO NOT bring them to The
Minnesota State Fair. The Minnesota State Fair will not accept any beer
entries.

Awards:
- The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Education Building's outdoor stage, adjacent to the Creative Activities building at 1pm on Saturday, August 29, 2009.
- All winners will be notified and every reasonable effort will be made to return score sheets and judges comments to all entrants.
- Results will also be published on the Minnesota Home Brewers Association
website.
- Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the 20 categories listed above, as well as a Best-Of-Show award.
