2001 HOMEBREWED BEER, MEAD, AND CIDER COMPETITION

Eligibility:

Anyone may enter. Beers must be entered under the name of all brewers who helped. Beers brewed in commercial facilities are ineligible.

Entry Fee:

$8.00 each for MHBA members. $10.00 each for non-members. Make checks payable to Water Tower Brewing Co.

Entry Requirements:

Bottles must be free of labels or other identifying marks including formed-in-glass brands or logos. Two 10-14 oz. brown or green crown capped bottles are required for each entry. No swing tops allowed. Printed crown caps must be blacked-out with a permanent marker to assure anonymity of all entries. A bottle ID form must be attached to each bottle with a rubber band. No tape, please! All entries become the property of the Minnesota Home Brewers Association. No entries will be returned for any reason. One entry form must be filled out and submitted for each entry. Please attach a self addressed, stamped, envelope, if you wish to have us mail your scoresheets to you.

Categories:

The 2001 BJCP Style Guidelines will be followed. One entry per subcategory per brewer. The competition committee reserves the right to combine categories based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in. A minimum of 4 categories will be established for judging and awards.

Deadline:

Ship or deliver your entries so as to arrive between August 16th and August 27th. In addition, judges and stewards may bring entries on the morning of the competition only if pre-registered by entry closing date. All entries received on the morning of the competition must be pre-registered by mailing your entry forms and fees to Water Tower Brewing Co. by August 27th, or by e-mail registration with fees mailed to Water Tower Brewing Co. by that same date.

Judging:

Judging will occur at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival grounds on Sept 2, 2001 or earlier as needed. In the first round, each judge will score 5-10 entries selecting the best three. The second round will consist of all entries selected in the first round. All entries will be evaluated by more than one judge. Entries will be chilled and stored properly and appropriately for the style. Entries will be disqualified for rules infractions. These entries will be judged if possible, but not eligible for awards and prizes. All decisions of the judges and competition committee are final.

All 26 BJCP categories of Beer, Mead, And Cider will be accepted.

Awards:

Winners will be announced late in the afternoon on Sept 2, 2001 on the Minnesota Renaissance Festival grounds. All winners will be notified and every reasonable effort will be made to return score sheets and judges comments to all entrants. Results will also be published on the Minnesota Home Brewers Association website. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Mead, Cider, and Beer categories.
