NEWS:
LIBRARY INFORMATION
Hey there, just wanted to remind everyone about the club library. It
doesn't always have the greatest presence @ our meetings, but it is worth
noting that it is full of resources for new and experienced brewers alike.
The
link to the library list is:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QNg9qxBzmR3v4LwcJZqZbOupTm7ngfYxukcLxylzIec/edit
or use the link in the left navigation bar.
If
you have books out, let me know what book you have if your name is
not listed next to it. I will make an effort to let everyone know what
meetings I will be at so we can make an exchange.
Happy
Brewing and have a great Big Brew Weekend!

MHBA May Meeting - Big Brew
We will be holding our May MHBA
club meeting on Saturday, May 5th, from 10am -5pm at Lucid Brewing,
in Minnetonka to celebrate Big Brew. AHA Big Brew is a celebration of
National Homebrew Day (May 7). Each year homebrewers around the world invite
family and friends to their brewing site on the first Saturday in May to
celebrate the holiday. You are all invited and encouraged to bring
your brewing equipment/brew systems and brew amongst your fellow MHBA club
members.
This year, and like others, you
may brew any style, and as many gallons as you may want. Summer is, right
around the corner, so it may be a good time to brew a nice session beer, or, if
you are looking to brew for an upcoming Club Only Competition, the style for
August will be Porters, and the September/October style will be Light
Hybrids. It’s up to you! You may also visit http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/pages/events/national-homebrew-day
for some recipes the AHA has posted for the event.
Jon and Eric at Lucid Brewing
will be opening their doors for our club again, and providing pre-heated brew
water for this event, as well as answering any questions you may have for
them. If you are brewing, you are responsible for bringing your own
brewing equipment, which includes chillers, burners, propane, carboys, and ingredients.
There will be a main source for chilling water, but you must bring your own
hoses. There will be food and water provided, but please feel free
to bring anything else you may want to share, especially beer. Lawn
chairs would be recommended too. Please bring family and friends, and we
encourage everyone to brew with a partner. See you there!

Sinning With The Saints
Back by popular demand, the 2012 version of Sinning With the
Saints!
Monday, June 11th, the MN Homebrewers Association will once
again stake a claim to tailgating spot #5 in Midway Stadium's parking lot for
grilling, chilling, and swilling from 4:00 until 11:00. At 7:00, some
attendees might even take their tickets and enter the stadium to harass the
players from Fargo-Moorhead, the mascot, and each other. At least twice
in years past we've had club members on the field for between-inning
nonsense--some as cross-dressers, some with root beer as shampoo!
There will be tables and chairs provided by the club.
I'll need two volunteers (or just Bob Norman, with his TEXAS-SIZED
CONTRAPTION!) to bring grills. You'll bring meat and some food to share
(and homebrew, of course). The club will provide napkins, plasticware,
and condiments.
Tickets are $12 each, and children aged three and over
should have one. Please send a check, PAYABLE to MHBA, to
John Longballa
1015 Parker Ave
Roseville 55113
Attendees NEED NOT be members. There are usually many
spouses, kids, and extended friends/families in attendance.
Please let me know that you're attending SOOOOONER, rather
than after I've had to once again panic that we have four times the tickets we
need, then send in your checks, then plan a dish to share, then brew some beer
to bring . . .
Thanks,
John

HISTORY: On October 14, 1978, President Carter signed House Resolution 1337. Senate Amendment 3534 to that resolution called for equal treatment of home beer brewers and home winemakers. This law allowed that brewing up to 100 gallons per adult or up to 200 gallons per household per year was permitted for home use. The amendment was proposed by Senator Cranston of California, Senator Schmitt of New Mexico, Senator Bumpers of Arkansas and Senator Gravel of Alaska. Read more
