Happy New Year! Thanks to everyone who joined us for this past year’s holiday party at Summit Brewing! The new location was a fantastic place to share homebrew, food and listen to the Jazz Central Trio. Congratulations to Gera Exire LaTour for winning the People’s Choice Beer/Mead award for her Tart Cherry Mead, Lloyd McIvor and his delicious cider for winning the People’s Choice Cider award and Jeff Kalchik for winning the People’s Choice Food award for his amazing brisket!
Our next event is fast approaching on Friday, January 11th. Come join us for Growler/Crowler/Bowler Fest! Check out the event page for more details
NOW is a GREAT time to check to see when your membership is expiring. As always, you may extend your membership quickly, easily, and safely on the club website.
Read MoreIt’s time for the 2018 Holiday Party!
For the first time since recorded history, the holiday party will NOT be at the CSPS hall. This year, we will be heading to the Summit Brewing Training Facility, right behind the Summit Rathskeller Taproom. It will still be an awesome potluck event with live music, home-brewed beer, mead and cider and lots of fun! We will also have the ability to purchase Summit Beer!
If you aren’t familiar with the Summit Training facility, this is a separate building behind the Summit Rathskeller Taproom. Just follow the beer pipeline at the back of the main facility. There is parking back there as well.
Due to licensing restrictions, we can’t have any commercial alcohol or any home-made alcoholic beverages other than beer, mead and cider (sorry, no wine).
What should you bring? Bring your food and homebrewed Beer, Mead and Cider! We’ll have plates, napkins and plastic-ware!
This is a family-friendly event, open to everyone so bring your friends too! It’s sure to be a great time!
Read MoreOur annual Learn to Brew day and Cider Pickup are fas approaching. That means your time to order cider is almost up. Not sure how to make cider or need some assistance? Go check out our Getting Started with Cider article or jump on the Facebook Group and ask a question!
We have a bit more cider left for purchase and we are close enough that we are opening cider purchases to everyone regardless of membership status.
Not interested in Cider, stop by Barley John’s anyway and say hi! Grab some delicious beer and food and come chat about brewing!

Read MoreThe weather is getting colder, the leaves are starting to fall. That can only mean it’s time to make Cider! Once again MHBA members are able to purchase fresh-pressed, unpasteurized cider and pick it up on Learn-to-brew-bay/Cider Day at Barley John’s Brew Pub on Nov 3rd.
As usual, initially cider is available for pre-purchase only to MHBA club members. As we get closer to distribution day we may open that up to non-members. You can purchase in 5-gallon allotments. Please bring your own sanitized, plastic 5-gallon containers.
Pickup is November 3rd at Barley John’s Brew Pub. You must pickup on distribution day between 11am and 2pm.
Read MoreIron Brewer chocolate edition is just around the corner! How’s the chocolate creations coming along? We have a few updates to mention which are listed below. Firstly, though, there will be a special mead tasting that night as well.
Several club members have collaborated together on a special batch of orange blossom traditional mead, and are eager to share their results with the club. This batch was split, barrel-aged and blended. You will have the opportunity to taste the different variants, as well as sample the original honey so you can see how it has transformed. Additionally, they are bringing a sample of the rum used to keep the barrel wet, along with some unbarreled rum to offer a contrast. This will be a great educational opportunity you will not want to miss.
Here’s the list of updates to the event. Please read all bullet points, especially the one about chocolate desserts.
- There is no entry limit. The last thing we want anyone to do is keep a chocolate brew at home.
- The club jockey box will be available for anyone wanting to bring a keg.
- Bring whatever volume of brew you’d like, however, a single 12 oz. bottle may go quick and not make it to all of those judging. So if you’d like to be in the running for an award, we’d recommend at least two 12 oz bottles.
- More Chocolate! We’ve had a brilliant recommendation by an anonymous source (who’s name rhymes with Sean Pongballa), to open the chocolate floodgates further by allowing attendees to bring chocolate desserts. So if you’re feeling ambitious and want to share the love, bring your favorite/fanciest/best chocolate dessert and enjoy a constant supply of high-fives from your fellow club members.
We will be meeting at Northern Brewer Minneapolis starting at 6:30pm until 9:30pm.
Read MoreWe are finalizing all the details but watch out for the 2018 Cider Buy details. The price will be $25 again this year. As usual, the buy is open to dues-paid members first. If supplies allow we may open it to non-club members as the buy approaches.
